Game of Thrones is one of the most successful television franchises of all time, and HBO and Warner Bros. have no intention of letting it fade away. Instead, they plan to continue adding to it with new spinoffs that further expand George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world.
Aegon’s Conquest is reported to be one of the next adaptations being developed, with HBO adding it to its slate of offerings from 2027 and beyond. With House of the Dragon set to end in 2028, it could be a good idea to release it after that spinoff ends.

Game of Thrones Universe Will Continue Expanding
One of the reasons why Game of Thrones and its spinoffs have been so successful is because all the different offerings help to promote one another. The flagship series also broke out into games such as Game of Thrones Jackpot King, which is one of the latest games at Paddy Power. Slots and other mobile games helped keep the brand visible in different entertainment markets, adding to its initial success.
As one of its most popular and commercially rewarding series ever, HBO was desperate to follow up on Game of Thrones after its conclusion in 2019. Since then, there have already been two spinoffs, and there are plans to add more. The great thing about Martin’s source material is that there are so many different eras and locations that could be explored further, meaning there are many possibilities for future series. According to a piece in NME, there are numerous ideas that HBO has already considered.

Key Moment in Westeros History Will Be Adapted for the Big Screen
Aegon’s Conquest is one of the most important periods in Westerosi history, and it’s one that fans have been desperate to see on screen. It tells the story of how the first Targaryens expanded from Dragonstone into the Seven Kingdoms and unified them under the rule of House Targaryen. Along with some incredible battle scenes, it will feature the largest dragon in the history of Martin’s mythology, Balerion the Black Dread.
According to an article in Variety, HBO initially considered making Aegon’s Conquest as a series. However, the latest reports suggest that it will now be adapted into a feature film. This sounds right, as it would be hard to drag the campaign over multiple episodes or even seasons. In Martin’s Fire and Blood source material, the author didn’t write about it extensively.
It would make sense for this to be made after House of the Dragon ends, as it would serve as a prequel to that series. If it were released before the final season of that show, it may confuse some viewers about the Targaryen timeline. Like House of the Dragon capitalised on the success of Game of Thrones, an Aegon’s Conquest film could do the same with House of the Dragon.
As it stands, the Aegon's Conquest adaptation is looking increasingly likely. With fantasy epics like this typically taking years to make, it’s most likely to be released after House of the Dragon ends in 2028.
