3 Ways to Make Your Next Zoom Call Fun

Hi, I am Betty Knight, Owner of this site! I…
Zoom and FaceTime have had a rise in popularity since the pandemic first occurred and there aren’t any signs of video calls slowing down. For some, it’s become a necessary weekly routine as a means to keep in touch with family, especially the elderly, and friends that continue to practice social distancing. As businesses start to reopen, many may not be as enthusiastic to reunite with their loved ones just yet. There’s nothing wrong with being cautious, so if you find yourself being one of those individuals that prefers video gatherings, here are a few ideas to make your Zoom and FaceTime calls a little more fun.
Make coffee dates a thing
Coffee dates can totally be a thing and one of the best ways to use video calls. Surprise delivery gifts that can be used over a call, such as customizable best friend mugs, adds the element of surprise and anticipation for the next call between the group and is useful for that hot cup of joe you all enjoy. You can also have a food delivery service such as DoorDash, Uber Eats or GrubHub, deliver each of you a coffee and pastry from a coffee shop early in the morning at the same time to enjoy with each other. The best thing about coffee dates is that it can take place early in the morning before you all start work, after work, or on a Saturday morning when you’re more free to take your time.
Have a virtual cocktail hour
If coffee or tea aren’t your thing, make cocktails at home. Send out a list via text or email so everyone has the ingredients and tools, and conduct a cocktail hour where you can all enjoy making the same drink at the same time and sip as you catch up on the latest gossip. This is a great idea for a Friday night after a long day’s work when you want to unwind with your girlfriends. This can also be a fun double date between couples as a way to enjoy what would have been an evening of drinks at your favorite bar or lounge.
Play games
Playing simple games like Bingo, Cards Against Humanity, or Pictionary can easily be played over video calls and would be fun to add to your cocktail hour. This is a great way to pass the time and have fun with friends or as a double date. If no one in your group has access or owns any of these games, this is a good time to use an excuse to send the game of choice as a “just because” gift. You can turn this into a tradition and each one can take turns hosting game night.
Pandemic or not, these ideas can be used throughout the years as a way to keep in touch and stay close. They also come in handy during the freezing cold winter days when you don’t feel like leaving your house but still want some quality time together.
