Alternative Ways Of Looking After Your Health

Your Health

Looking after yourself doesn’t just mean eating well and going to the gym three times a week, it requires a much more global view of health that includes mental and emotional well-being. An alternative approach to physical health can consist of many things and is sometimes called a holistic approach. The American Holistic Health Association (AHHA) describes it in the following way “Rather than focusing on illness or specific parts of the body, this ancient approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment”.

While western medicine often focuses on treating the symptoms of an illness rather than the source of the disease, a holistic approach focuses much more on lifestyle changes and non-invasive medicines and treatments that can help the body function better as a whole. Whether you have tried a holistic approach to medicine before, or you have never experimented with alternative medicine or therapy, there are so many different ways to dip your toes in the water. It is essential to remember of course that these kinds of lifestyle changes or alternative remedies are often complementary when it comes to severe illness, which should always be reviewed by a doctor if there is any doubt.

Common illnesses

Many people turn to holistic treatment as a way to feel more in control and at one with their body, and as a cost-effective and natural way to treat themselves. When it comes to minor illnesses such as colds and sore throats, many doctors agree with some of the most common natural ways to alleviate the discomfort caused by these illnesses. For example, honey and lemon tea is wonderful for a sore throat and a cold. Manuka honey is a particular type of honey that is often used to treat sore throats, and even more serious conditions such as bedsores. This is because Manuka honey comes from the nectar of the manuka tree which has antibacterial properties. Many people believe it to be antiviral as well as anti-inflammatory and wound healing. Treating colds and sore throats with honey are just one of the many ways that food can be used to treat common illnesses. As Hippocrates famously said, “let food be thy medicine, and medicine is thy food“. There is a lot to be said for these famous words, and many foods that have traditionally been valued for their medicinal benefits have now been scientifically proven.

Seed to store

As cannabis becomes more popular in America for its health benefits, there is more and more research into the effects and benefits of it. People who are cannabis advocates claim that it has plenty of benefits. For example, medical marijuana is increasingly popular with cancer patients as a way to stimulate appetite, and its ability to relieve chronic pain. And while this was more controversial several years ago, it is quickly becoming less taboo and more accepted as a natural way to help people. Many people prefer to go to seed to store dispensary, which enables them to purchase regulated, industry safe products.
