The Leading Blockchain Games

As blockchain technology continues to evolve, an increasing number of developers are starting to create games that utilize the distributed ledger. While there are still a few kinks to work out, the potential for blockchain-based gaming is immense.

One of the reasons why there’s such a high level of interest comes from the playtoearn aspects of the games. Now you no longer need to feel guilty spending hours playing online if you’re also earning some cash at the same time!

Here are some of the best blockchain games out there right now.

Axie Infinity

This is one of the few games that makes collecting cute pets fun, and it’s already fully funded on Kickstarter. Its unique battle system allows for real-time battles where you control your pets in the third person, much like Pokemon. But instead of battling other players, you battle AI.

Players can grow their Axis with different body parts to make them stronger, breed them to create rare species, or train them into powerful fighters to sell or use in competitive battles against other players.

Crypto Celebrities

Crypto Celebrities is a game where you collect pieces of famous people (and by famous, I mean celebs who haven’t even hit their 5 minutes of fame) on the Ethereum blockchain. When you buy a piece of a celebrity, that digit of the public address is allocated to you and then can’t be transferred again. This makes it impossible for anyone else to own the same piece as you without buying it from you.

This game also includes a marketplace where players can sell their pieces as well as both by now and Dutch auctions.

CryptoKitties

As far as I know, Cryptokittens is the first big mainstream hit on blockchain games. It took off like crazy last December and now has over $23 million in sales, with over 250,000 cats being bred.

Cryptokitties is very similar to Crypto Celebrities, but instead of different body parts and stats, each cat has unique features based on its DNA sequence. You can also breed two cats together to make a new kitty with a mix of both parents’ traits, kind of like genetic sexual attraction.

Cryptokitties is an excellent example of using blockchain technology in games that don’t need the decentralization and security that blockchains provide. It’s also a perfect case study for any other game wanting to take off as fast as Cryptokitties did.

Etherbots

Etherbots is another excellent collectable game where you battle your bots against other bot owners. Instead of having stats like speed, defence, hp, etc., each bot has different properties affecting its playability based on which body part it has equipped at the time.

For example, a robot with three wheels gives it high speed but low attack, while a robot with two legs has average stats and costs less to build than a 4-wheeler. Etherbots also features crafting and an open market where players can sell any parts they don’t need or find duplicates of.

My Crypto Heroes

MCH is one of the first RPG blockchain games available. Players collect heroes and party up to defeat evil bosses and gain loot. Another one like Cryptokitties that doesn’t take advantage of what blockchains are best at (decentralization) MCH still plays really well as your hero collection grows. And I’ve already played more hours on this game than I’d like to admit!

CryptoTown

CryptoTown is one of the more unique blockchain games I’ve seen come out in a while. Instead of collecting or battling, CryptoTown allows you to expand your city with different types of shops and houses for other players to visit. The visiting player can look around inside your shops, buy things, and battle other monsters you might have hired to guard your stores.

Board Kings

This isn’t an RPG but another collectable game like Axie Infinity and CryptoKitties. Board Kings has a great concept where each player builds their town piece by piece with different building cards they collect throughout the game.

Players also need to defend their town from zombies, which come randomly at night unless they pay up some in-game money to hire guards. Once the zombies make it past the guards, they attack buildings, and players lose life for each building destroyed until their health reaches zero and they lose.

This game also features a marketplace where you can sell your extra cards or buy ones that might be harder to find.

Board Kings is definitely my favourite board game on the blockchain because I think it has the best chance at mass adoption due to its simplicity, player vs player battling when their towns face off against each other, and overall fun gameplay

The Six Dragons

The Six Dragons are the only RPG currently on this list. It’s an action-packed game where you fight turn-based battles against monsters while collecting precious loot and materials to craft items with. The Six Dragons does a great job of utilizing blockchain’s security features, allowing for actual ownership of all your heroes, weapons, armour, etc.

One of my favourite things about The Six Dragons is their rare monster cards, which makes each player unique. Each card has different attack and magic power, defence, hit points, etc., making it so no two players can have the same hero with the same stats; cleverly using one of blockchain technology’s best features in gaming!

War Riders

Last but not least is War Riders, a post-apocalyptic MMO game where you gather resources to build cars, sell them at the market for profits, and raid other players’ cars to steal their loot. Every vehicle is equipped with weapons allowing for PVP battles which are fun and well balanced.

The real money in this game comes from crafting rarer cards that have special abilities allowing you to gain more gold per trade or sell your items faster etc., much like many other trading card games.

Overall, War Riders have raised around $5 million during its presale, making it one of the top-grossing blockchain applications ever built! I think that speaks volumes for itself, considering how young blockchain gaming still is.

Spells of Genesis

Spells of Genesis is one of the biggest blockchain games out right now. It’s a unique game that combines turn-based card collecting, racing, and building with Blockchain technology in an RPG setting. Instead of having static characters to battle with like most RPGs, you also get to play as many different vehicles as possible in addition to your character’s attributes.

I enjoy how SoG rewards players for completing offers through Swagbucks’ partnered companies or other websites featuring SB earning opportunities. The more offers you complete, the bigger chance you have at getting rare cards. And since they’re all blockchain-based, actual ownership can be given whenever you want to another player or sold on the which Spells of Genesis has built into their gameplay.

Age of Rust

Another game that combines board game elements with an RPG is Age of Rust, and it looks like it will be one of the most complex blockchain-based games yet.

Players look around abandoned ships and mines, collecting items, weapons, and robots they can use to battle enemies in turn-based combat. Each enemy has its unique strengths and weaknesses, making it, so players need to take advantage of each robot’s attributes as well as their own if they want a chance at defeating them.

One cool thing I noticed about Age of Rust is how different locations have been integrated into the gameplay where you can see your character walking from room to room or outside. This makes it feel more interactive than other blockchain-based games, which only feature a trading card-style interface.

Age of Rust’s gameplay is still in development, but the finished product looks promising, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated as they progress!

Bitguild

Bitguild is building an MMO game with blockchain technology integrated into every aspect of the game. Players can mine resources, buy or sell items on a free market, upgrade their character’s stats through levelling up and completing quests, trade items on the marketplace, participate in guild battles against rival groups, and craft gear to use during fights with other players/guilds,

Almost everything done inside Bitguild will utilize blockchain technology which means ownership of all your assets is handled by the players themselves rather than some company that runs an auction house or centralized marketplaces.
