Pack Everything You Need

Unlike a hotel stay, you’ll need to ensure you have everything with you before your travel – especially if your destination is the opposite end of the country.

Whether you’re in a static caravan enjoying the extra space afforded or going relatively more off-piste with a towed caravan and enjoying life off the beaten track, make sure to create an inventory and double-check your luggage before you depart.

Choose The Right Destination

Don’t just choose any old destination when you go caravanning. As with holidays abroad or hotel-bound city breaks, it pays to do your research and find a place that will be a hit with the whole family.

Enjoy the seaside? Head to the balmy south coast or north to Scotland for unspoiled tracts of sand. Want plenty of things to do? Pick a location like the Lake District or central England. Enjoy sports in the great outdoors? Consider the Scottish Borders or Wales. If you’re a fan of a caravan holidays, head to breakfreeholidays.co.uk to find holiday parks in every corner of the UK.

Once you have a, shortlist, check what the weather is typically like at the destination before you commit and ensure that caravan parks are well-suited to your needs – dog-friendly, for instance.

Make Sure You Know How to Tow

For most people, it’s perfectly legal to strap a caravan to their car and start towing. Still, new government guidance that comes into force from May 18th, 2022, now asks that drivers in England, Scotland, and Wales take a course in towing if they are doing so for the first time after a long time having not pulled, or are only used to towing smaller trailers.

Taking a course will help you protect your caravan investment and ensure the safety of yourself, passengers, and other road users. During the training, you’ll look at how to prepare a vehicle, how to control it, reverse the trailer, road-safe, and fuel-efficient driving techniques, and your legal responsibilities too.

With the above steps, you can enjoy your staycation while traveling out and about in your caravan. Whereabouts are you thinking of heading this summer? Have any tips for our other readers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
