4 Steps to Take When Choosing the Right Vaping eLiquid

Finding the right vaping eLiquid is both a science and an art. The science part comes from getting the nicotine strength right. The art is getting a flavor that appeals to your tastes and makes the vaping experience pleasurable.

The decision-making process can be reduced to four steps. By tackling the process logically and being as thorough as possible at each step of the process, you can ensure you select the perfect vaping eLiquid for your individual preferences and needs.

Choosing the Nicotine Strength

Nicotine strength can be broadly reduced to four levels:

  •   Note: For vapers who enjoy the act of vaping but do not want or need any nicotine, liquids without nicotine are available.
  •   Low: For light smokers that do not require high levels of nicotine, a liquid with less than 6mg would be considered a low strength liquid. For those looking to transition from cigarettes to vapes, if you smoke half a pack or less a day, you should consider opting for a liquid with a low dose of nicotine.
  •   Medium: 9mg to 16mg liquids can be considered medium strength.
  •   High: Liquids with 18mg to 36mg of nicotine contain a high level of nicotine. They are designed to cater for heavy chain smokers.

It’s All in the Flavor

Once you know what level of nicotine content you want, you can start the fun part- choosing the flavor.

This part of the decision-making process will greatly depend on your personal taste; however, there are some things that might be useful to know to go into the process.

For those transitioning from cigarettes to vaping, there are plenty of flavors designed to closely mimic the flavor of your favorite cigarette brand.

Otherwise, there are a host of flavors, ranging from savory to sweet; including fruity flavors, dessert-themed flavors, and alcohol-inspired liquids. If you are likely to be vaping regularly throughout the day, you may want to consider a less-sweet flavor. Cookies and cream sound great (and tastes delicious), but how would you feel about having it several times a day every day? Start with some generic, middle-of-the-road flavors you know you’ll like, then start to branch out and become more adventurous later on.

PG vs VG

There are two compounds that make up the base solutions of all liquids; propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerol (VG). Most manufacturers produce PG liquids, VG liquids, and blends of the two.

The main difference for the vaper is the PG-based liquids generally have a stronger flavor while VG-based liquids are more viscous, producing more smoke but less flavor. The best thing to do is try each base and experiment with the blends to find the one that you like best.

One of the most common and popular blends is 40% PG and 60% VG. This provides ample flavor while giving a good-sized smoke cloud. There are also some people who are allergic to liquids with a PG base. If you experience itchiness, hives or difficulty breathing when using blended liquids or all-PG bases, try using a VG-based liquid.

Keep Experimenting

Once you have a flavor you like and a nicotine strength that suits you, try out different brands. Each manufacturer’s flavor has subtle differences. Just because you love the apple flavor from one manufacturer, doesn’t mean you will love the apple flavor of another.

Keep experimenting and trying new flavors, blends and nicotine strengths to find the perfect flavor for you.
