Benefits of Practicing Mindfulness

Mindful Meditation

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a form of meditation that focuses on being present in the moment and you are aware of your feelings and thoughts at that moment. Mindfulness can be practiced by following breathing exercises, imagery-guided meditation, and other decompression methods that calm your body and mind.

Why is it important?

Some of us live a life that can get overwhelming and tiresome.  We have the constant worry of meeting deadlines. There are times when you feel mentally drained, and then there are the health issues that crop up due to lack of sleep and diet. We need to press pause for some time and learn to live in the moment and enjoy every bit of it.

The practice of mindfulness will help you maintain a healthy mind and body. It will bring you a sense of purpose, happiness, and meaningfulness. You will feel mentally stimulated and have a positive outlook on life. However, mindful meditation is not that easy to follow and comes only with constant guidance and gradual development of customary practices.

Mindful Mornings

The routine that you follow every morning sets the tone and mood for the rest of your day. Therefore, it is crucial to have a morning routine filled with positive energy and peace. Mornings are essentially perfect to practice mindful meditation. In addition, the serenity and calmness in the mornings will offer you the ideal moments to spend some time with yourself.

Initially, when you start practicing mindful meditation, you need to make a constant effort not to rush through your mornings. It is advised to avoid picking up your phone as soon as you wake. Instead, you can begin your morning routine by sitting in a spot in your home with natural light to bring warm and optimistic energy into your day.  Be grateful for a fresh morning and practice controlled breathing exercises before you dive into your chores.

Mindful Eating

In the daily humdrum of life, we have forgotten an essential part of our lifestyle- Food! Do you recall the last time you had a proper homemade meal? Do you remember sitting and having a meal without worrying about your work or using your laptop or phone?

Our lives are busy, the wheels in your mind are constantly churning, and you do not have the time to stop and have a filling meal. The various take-away joints and fast-food trucks have spoilt our willingness to have healthy homemade food.

Slow down for 15-20 minutes in a day, have a nutrition-filled lunch/dinner/breakfast, chew your food correctly, appreciate the food’s taste and texture, and then go on with your day. Practicing mindful eating will not only improve the health of your mind but will also work wonders for your digestive system.

Outdoor Activity

The outdoors and nature can nurture and heal your body and mind effectively. In addition, spending time outdoors will release “happy hormones,” which will keep you motivated and energized.

You can achieve mindfulness by just devoting a few hours a week to any outdoor activity. You do not need to spend a chunk of money on a retreat or camp; instead, go for a long walk, go on a hiking trail, spend some time reading a book on a bench in the park, practice yoga in your garden, etc.
