Fun Things to Do When Visiting Monaco

If you’re looking for an unforgettable vacation destination, look no further than Monaco. This small country on the French Riviera is home to some of the most extravagant hotels and casinos in the world.

When people think of Monaco, they often think of the high-class and luxurious lifestyle that the country is known for. While it is true that there are plenty of upscale activities to enjoy in Monaco, there are also plenty of fun, more budget-friendly options available too. Here are some ideas for things to do when visiting this fascinating country.

Take in The Sights from a Yacht

One of the most exciting things that you could do whilst in Monaco is take in the sights from one of the best Monaco yacht charters. It would be impossible not to expect a water-based activity since Monaco is found on the French Riviera. There are many different Yacht tours available, so it might be worth doing some reading to find the best one suited for you.

Whilst on the yacht you will be able to see the amazing landscape that Monaco has to offer. After the experience, you could visit one of the many restaurants situated in the harbor, which in itself is a sight to behold.

Visit the Prince’s Palace

The Prince’s Palace, or better known as Palais du Prince or Palais Princier de Monaco, was built originally back in the 13th century, and the oldest monarchy in the world can actually be found here. You won’t be able to visit the palace whenever you want, since it is only open to the public during certain times of the year, so you might want to plan your trip around that if you want to see it.

When visiting the palace, you will be able to see the guard’s amazing views and feel transported back in time.

Explore Monte-Carlo

Monte-Carlo is the administrative area of the Principality of Monaco, and even though it is relatively small, you will be in awe of the sprawling landscape, the buildings that appear to roll up the mountain, and the greenery that surrounds the area.

What can you do here? Get lost exploring the streets, treat yourself to fine dining, or even visit the Place du Casino to see if luck is on your side. This is the wealthiest district in Monaco, so be prepared to spend a pretty penny.

Monaco Grand Prix

If you are into high stakes, lots of action, and a day surrounded by people cheering on their favourite drivers, then you should plan your trip around the Monaco Grand Prix. This event takes place once a year on the last weekend in May.

What makes this such an exciting activity? It’s the only car race in the world that takes place on the streets of a city. Even if you can’t exactly see what is happening because of the massive crowd that always turns up, you should go just to experience the atmosphere alone. Whilst here, you could also take advantage of the timing and see the Cannes Film Festival.

See the Oceanographic Museum

Talking about sights to behold, one that is beautiful beyond compare is the Oceanographic Museum or Musée Oceanographique. This museum is found around 90 meters above sea level and is actually the world’s oldest aquarium.

Aside from being beautiful, the museum houses a wide range of rare species of fish, and has many exhibits of marine science and oceanography. You can find three aquariums here, such as the Shark Lagoon, Mediterranean Aquarium, and the Tropical Aquarium. This alone is reason enough to visit Monaco.

Les Jardins Saint-Martin

After your trip to the Oceanographic Museum, you might want to unwind a bit, so you could mosey on down to the Les Jardins Saint-Martin, an absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful garden found relatively close to the museum. In the garden, you will find many exotic species of plants and vibrant, colourful flowers.

In the garden, there is also a statue of Prince Albert I, the man who commissioned the construction of Musée Oceanographique. There are many benches placed in perfect spots to take in the scenery and the view that overlooks the calming waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
