Learning is Fun at PixarInaBox.com|Finding Dory Lesson #FindingDoryEvent
PixarInaBox.com is a wonderful website to learn about animation, effects and much, much more.
If I really think about it, looking back I would have loved to have either went into computer technology, animation, or public relations. Back when I went to college I thought I wanted to be a psychologist, and not too long after I started college I decided that it wasn’t for me. Yet I never thought beyond and what was out there for me.
Now for free kids can try out different lessons on Pixar in a Box. This site is not only limited to animation BUT does show how math and science are needed to indeed produce the animation parts of movies. Along with the animation, it can show a kid who doesn’t ever think they will “need” math or science someday down the road a different way it could be used.
A personalized learning resource for all ages
Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. This is such a great concept for those students who would like to learn more. Summertime although busy could be a great time to schedule so much out of each day to do this, (especially on those rainy days).
What I love about Khan Academy is that they not only help with math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Their math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. They have also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content. I LOVE the fact that they are on the internet ready to help your child with their subjects for FREE.
When my oldest was in school he sadly struggled, especially in math and I now wonder if Khan Academy was online then if it would have helped him in a fun way. Below are all of the subjects that they offer tutorials/help with.
What I found very interesting as well as fun is their section on Pixar where they offer tutorials for learning how to create water, like in Finding Dory. Once you see all that it takes to create one full scene of beautiful water you will be amazed that you too can learn this too, or at least the more than basic concepts.
You can watch videos during each class session, and then be quizzed on what you learned as well as video completions.
Below is just one of the parts of my “quiz”. You can then check your answer and if it is wrong they will take you back through it. IF you get enough incorrect, you can go back through the lesson and redo your questions/answers.
Below is what I received after watching the video for the first time and my points for completion of this task.
Then this was me trying my hand at making water. You will also see I need to take much more time to get mine where I want it to look. For the purpose of my post, I wanted to make sure I could at least show you a screen shot of what I did accomplish.
Since this is a screenshot I couldn’t make it move like it did in the lesson. But you get the idea of it. You can change the number of particles, the viscosity, and the collision softness. While doing this I wish I knew I could have possibly gone into this profession years ago. I really think I would have enjoyed it.
Now that I have the use of this site, I will be able to recommend it to teachers, parents, and kids alike. I am very proud to have been able to learn about this site and all that it offers.
Pixar + Khan Academy= hours of fun and learning too!
Finding Dory is in theaters and is the top grossing animated film for 2016 thus far bringing in 563.8 million USD in the 3 weeks since it came out!
