So you’ve decided to take your family away on a road trip! Now although this is a very exciting time because you’re going on an adventure, it can also be rather stressful if you’ve never done it before. There are a lot of things that you need to think about, like what you need to pack, where you plan on staying, and where you decide on going. But as soon as you have everything planned out properly, you can focus on having a fun trip.
One other thing that a lot of you will want to consider is your safety – even more so than normal if you have children. So here is a list of all the things to consider before setting off.
You need a road safety emergency kit.
Regardless of where you go – road trip or a trip to the shops – you should always have an emergency kit in your car. You will want to include band-aids, alcohol swabs, disinfectant, water bottles, a torch, and a phone charger. You should be able to find these from home without having to go out and buy anything. Another helpful thing to add is an old towel; you never know when you may need to wipe something down, or use it to lay on if you need to check underneath your car. You should also bring things that your vehicle will need like jumper cables and a multi-purpose tool that can be used for many parts on your car. Then just pack all of these things away into a rucksack, or a box. – A plastic crate is ideal to keep everything safe and stable in the back of your trunk.
Extra essentials for your children.
Depending on the age of your children will determine what you need to include on your list of essentials. If they are under a certain age or height, then they will require a car seat. There are many out there – you will most likely already have one. But it’s important to know that you get what you pay for, and they will also need to be replaced if what you already have is very old. How to avoid unnecessary distractions.
Once you know you have all the essentials that you may need, it’s important to put them in the right place. So for example, if you have a GPS, it’s no good keeping it in the back of your car because you’ll need it, so keep it up front with you so it’s ready to use. If you use your phone for music, make sure it’s all plugged in and ready before you start driving so you don’t need to do anything that distracts you from the road. If your car has Bluetooth installed, then make sure it’s on so that if your phone does ring, you don’t need to take your eyes away from what’s important.
