On the Set of the Making of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and I Met Chris Evans!

Last April (2013), 24 bloggers and myself went to LA for the Red Carpet Premiere of Iron Man 3. Little did we know that we would have to keep a secret for almost a year. That secret being that we were going to be on the set of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. On this trip I had already met Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ty Simpkins, so meeting Chris Evans was the cherry on top of the sundae!

Meeting Chris Evans (Captain America)

Chris Evans talked to us during his break and allowed us to ask a few questions. He was so down to earth and very funny. See the picture above? YES, that is me, from a small tourist town in Watkins Glen NY, STANDING so very close to him, with my arm behind his back! Yes it is true, although you can’t see that part. We also saw Chris tying Scarlett Johansson’s boots while in her actor’s chair; I think it was because her “Black Widow” costume was so form fitting she wasn’t able to bend over.

On Set-Lights, Camera, ACTION!

Since we were on set, there were times when you would hear a loud beep and that was time to be quiet so there was no background noise.  You wouldn’t realize how many takes they have to do for 1 small scene. The actors at times make mistakes on their lines, or do not say the line just as the director would like, so it is the same scene over and over again. Also they do the scene from all sorts of angles. They said their lines so many times I had just about memorized all of them; word for word. The picture above is part of the scene that we watched. Being human, they don’t always say the words of their line correctly, which sometimes turns into them trying not to laugh or laughing. This turns into another take to get it right. The scene we were watching was in  the Quinjet. It’s amazing how they are able to make it look like are onboard in the cockpit area (at least that is what I took from watching the scene). One of the other actors,  Frank Grillo is one of the actors in the scene below also.

Can you believe that the first 30 seconds of that clip took 3 hours at least to be filmed? It is so amazing to watch that clip and know that we were there watching it as it was being taped. Although we were not right up front (as you know the directors sit there), we were able to listen in on headphones and watch on a small screen so it felt like were right there in front of them, instead we were only feet away.

The hustle and bustle in the taping area was busy. I felt like I was in a big warehouse, which is understandable with the props they had to use in order to properly portray the scenes that they had to do. On a sidenote you wouldn’t believe the buffet that is there for them to eat while taping. Salads, lunch meat, rolls and more (I was trying not to look as I was really hungry at that point).

As you can see there are so many people involved in making a movie. In the way back is the Prop Master who also did the props in Iron Man 3, Russell Bobbitt.

I have to say I would have never imagined I would get to have such an experience. We had to sign an embargo (stating we wouldn’t disclose on social media what went on that day on the set until released to do so.)  We were also not allowed the use of our phones, cameras or video taping. This again ensures nothing is leaked, and protected us from the possibility of being sued.  People that know me, KNOW I have an issue keeping secrets. I have to say I have gotten SO much better since I started doing things with Disney!

I am thankful for the opportunity last year to not only go to the Iron Man 3 Red Carpet Premiere but to also have the opportunity to see what it is like behind the scenes of the making of a movie; especially Captain America: The Winter Soldier!
