29 Raffey Cassidy Answers and Her Favorite Prank While Filming Tomorrowland | #TomorrowlandEvent
**Disney sent me to LA for the #TomorrowLandEvent for an all expenses paid trip to cover press with 24 other bloggers. All opinions are mine.**
As always it is bittersweet when you are writing your last post from an event. I am happy though that it will be the cute freckled faced and talented 12 year-oldRaffey Cassidy. Her accent is endearing and her outlook on life optimistic. I am happy to be able to share a peek on the inside of Raffey in the movie Tomorrowland.
- Raffey started her acting career after going to an audition with her brother. She was asked if she wanted to audition so she did and that is when it started.
- Raffey auditioned for Tomorrowland by doing a self-tape, then from there she went to London for a screen test and then to America for her last screen test.
- Her favorite scene to do was the ‘blast from the past sequence’ because it included a lot of action.
- Raffey’s biggest takeaway from the movie was ‘everybody should be very optimistic and feel that there’s a way around situations if they’re in a bad situation. There’s always a bright side. ‘
- Raffey loves how her character Athena is an old soul inside of a young body.
- Her most challenging part she felt to play her character Athena was that Athena didn’t really have a background. So she had to create the background for her character. She did however, find that part was fun.
- One of her favorite costumes that she wore during the movie was the blue dress. If you looked closely there were algorithms in it in algebra.
- In order to do the martial arts that she did during the movie, Raffey had to train for two months in gymnastics and martial arts. Then she went to Canada to do another month of martial arts and some gymnastics. During filming, she had to keep up with training for these two things a couple times a week.
- Although the truck she drove was towed she still had to learn how to look like she was driving. She felt that was fun. During one scene she was driving down a ramp, and because she felt more confident she started to get too close. So Britt told her to “stop”.
- Raffey really enjoyed working with George Clooney. She enjoyed watching him in Descendants. She learned a lot from him and found him funny yet professional.
- During the movie filming, she was able to spend quite a lot of time with young Frank as well as ‘older’ Frank. Only because of the amount of scenes she was in with both of them.
- One thing she felt she had in common with her character was their shared feeling of optimism. Raffey is one to alway look on the bright side of a bad situation.
- Raffey said that there is so much technology in Tomorrowland and she sees the possibility of that technology coming in maybe 60 years. If she had to pick one thing she would like to see in the future that is jetpacks.
- Training to be ‘Athena’, Raffey took Athena’s optimism, intelligence, ability to be wise and put it altogether. She always had an image of what she felt Athena was and she kept that in mind when portraying Athena’s character.
- The hardest scene for Raffey was at the end when she had all the lines to remember. George Clooney was a big part in helping her keep things flowing especially with his constant eye contact.
- During the making of the film, Athena had to eat powder packs. Raffey said she thought they were dip daps.
- Raffey’s favorite place that they filmed was the Eiffel Tower because that was an actual thing that they recreated in Tomorrowland so she felt that was really cool.
- Raffey’s message to girls her age is “the future isn’t a place we’re going. It’s something we’re making, so it can be anything that they want it to be. (great insight from a 12-year-old)
- Raffey is so much more optimistic about the future. It now makes me think about the future now and, and how optimistic we can all be and, and how we can make it what we want. She now questions herself on how she can make the future better herself.
- Having her family with her makes her feel she is never away from home. She has three brothers and one sister, and her whole family travels with her. Since they are so close, they travel together because if one of them is missing, then it isn’t the same.
- Raffey looks at herself as a dreamer.
- Her favorite Disney ride is Space Mountain.
- She likes Disneyland more if she had to choose between that and Disney World as far as the Tomorrowland section goes.
- Raffey’s character was always alert as she was always ready to attack someone. Athena never was one to show emotion, but there were times she wanted to show that she cared and wanted to protect them.
- During their time on set, Raffey enjoyed George Clooney’s sense of humor and at times participated in his pranks. She felt like the ‘mother’ sometimes because none of the other actors seemed to. There was one prank in particular that she had fun participating in. There was this one time when, this was kind of towards the start of the shoot, we pulled up on a black monorail and the doors would open, and the camera would be there watching us. So George thought it would be funny if we all ran to the side of the monorail and the doors would open and nobody would be there. So we did it, the camera man, everybody went wait, where they all gone?
- Raffey isn’t sure if her future will include acting the rest of her life, but for now it is. (at 12 years old I can imagine it is hard to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life). She is grateful for this opportunity and has enjoyed every minute.
- Her work day started at maybe 6 or 6:30am, and then she would finish it around about 5.
- Her role model is Britt Robertson. Raffey said she is somebody to look up to and admire because she’s like a normal person and she’s done so much and she is so kind and Raffey really likes her.
- If you are wondering what is next on Raffey’s agenda? Back to school she guesses.
