A New Twist on Strawberry Shortcake with Cake Donuts Recipe

With May being the month for strawberries I am excited to share a new twist on making a Strawberry Shortcake with cake donuts.
It is an easy recipe and doesn’t take long to put together as long as you have what you need to do so.
When I found out I was accepted as a Strawberry Shortcake ambassador I was excited to be included in such a loved ambassadorship . I received a box of fun themed items that included a Strawberry Shortcake doll which is in celebration of their 35th Anniversary. She is so cute and smells just like the one my sister had when they first came out. Such wonderful memories! I also received Strawberry Shortcake rings, pink tint for my homemade whipped cream, pink sugar sprinkles, a booklet (again so very cute) and a ‘cake’ topper of an older looking Strawberry Shortcake figurine. I appreciated the 2 metal cake decorating tips and 10 bags to help with my decorating needs from DecoPac. I know it seems odd to mention but these decorating bags are the nicest I have ever had, they have like a grip type texture and are just wonderful.
- 12 cake donuts: Bake or buy pre-made plain cake donuts.
- 6 cups whipped cream*
- 1 pound fresh strawberries (quartered)
- 1 bottle pink Premium Gel Color
- Strawberry Shortcake Friends Forever Cupcake Rings
- Cut each donut in half.
- *Ingredients-Preparation for homemade whipped cream:
- *I made homemade whipped cream using 6 cups of heavy whipping cream
- 3 tbsp of sugar per 1 cup of whipping cream (or 18 tbsps )
- 2 tbsp of vanilla.
- You can manually whip it with a whisk (takes a long time), or an electric mixer.
- I separated to have enough white to top off each donut and the rest I tinted with my pink dye (frosting dye).
- Once you have your whipped cream make sure you have your donuts cut in half, and your strawberries quartered.
- Spread whipped cream on each donut half then position quartered strawberries to your liking.
- (you can also use a cake decorating bag).
- Add the tops to each donut and dab an amount of whipped cream to your liking to the top of each donut.
- This is when I added the Strawberry Shortcake rings.
- Now you are all done.
