Old Fashioned Snickerdoodle Cookies

Old Fashioned Snickerdoodle Cookies
This cookie is one I used to have as a child, and somewhere in my life I forgot about them. Then a few years ago my daughter asked my husband what one of his favorite cookies was- and this is one that he mentioned to her; so we made them. Then this past weekend we were talking about cookies and my daughter mentioned these cookies again; and her boyfriend said “those are one of my favorites”—so she made them! They turned out better than I remember; and we sent some home with him, which he seemed happy about.
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened (we used butter)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- Heat oven to 400 degrees F. In large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups sugar and margarine; beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, blend well.
- Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt, mix well.
- In small bowl, combine 2 tbsp sugar and cinnamon. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, roll in sugar-cinnamon mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 8 to 10 min or until set. Immediately remove from cookie sheets.
- Yields 4 dozen cookies
